From the mid-1800s to early 1900s, people from countries all over the world like Japan, China, the Philippines, Portugal, Korea, and Puerto Rico flocked to Hawaii to work in the sugar plantations that made up most of the islands’ industry. As these cultures combined with the existing Hawaiian and mainland populations so did the sharing of food and flavors.
Most of today’s Hawaiian dishes involve some type of sauce or gravy and tend to gravitate towards the notion of sweet and savory, a highly-addictive combination. The cuisine of Hawaii combines elements both righteously healthy (think fresh ingredients like seafood and seaweed) and slightly tacky plays on mainland staples and Big Island classics. So come say ALOHA to Hawaiian flavors with Onolicious.
